Common Name: Green and Black Poison Frog

Scientific Name: Dendrobates auratus

Origin: Nicaragua and Costa Rica (green morph), Panama (blue morph), Columbia

Size: 2 inches

Captive Care: 10 gallon tank - 3 max. frogs; 29 gallon - breeding colony 4 - 5 frogs

layers of gravel, dirt (minimal), moss, live plants, streaming water from a pump, coconut huts with leaves for egg laying

maintain 80% humidity by misting - use only dechloronated or aged water; glass lid keeps in humidity

florescent lighting to keep plants alive, 12 - 14 hrs. a day

Temperature: 22-27 C drop down temp. at night to 22

Food: flightless fruit flies, 1/8"-1/2" crickets - both calcium and vitamin dusted

Breeding: Mid-July to Mid-September. Females lay 6 eggs. 2mo. to morph.

Notes: Males vocalize to attract mates

Frogs are only poisonous in the wild due to foodsource
