Japanese at BG The Japanese website at BGSU, it gives basic information about the programs and other opportunities as well as contact data to learn more. Edu Abroad This is BGSU's Education Abroad homepage where you can get more information about the programs as well as how to go about enrolling. HJU Hiroshima Jyogakuin's Homepage, there is an English section that discusses the school’s history and why you might want to study there as a graduate student. The rest of the site is in Japanese and intended for the use of current and future students of all levels. There is a lot of information about the campus and related issues for the freshmen girls that might be of use. Joint Seminar As mentioned in the BGSU-HJU student life section, the Joint Seminar is a great sprint-time opportunity for students from HJU and other US institutions now including BGSU to band together to learn about the meaning of peace and ways to achieve it. The seminar counts as an actual class and consists of a week long series of meetings, brainstorming sessions, presentations and field trips for which you miss regular classes without penalty. At the end of the week, all students are required to write a paper in English about the seminar as a whole, summing up all that has been leaned. The event gives much food for thought as well as providing an opportunity to meet new people. JET Program The JET association (Japanese-English Teachers) is a well known group that sends students with at least a BA in any subject to Japan for 1-3 years to help teach English to Japanese jr. high and high school students, coordinate the activities of said teachers, or coach sports. During that time, they receive a base salary as demanded by the corporation, but may also receive extra money and stipends depending upon the school district they are sent to. Many of the foreigners you might meet will be a part of this program and generally recommend it so it is something to consider post graduation. One Stop English A very useful site designed by teachers for teachers, there are examples of games and exams as well as helpful grammar reviews. The site also gives information if you want to pursue the career more seriously. ESL Monkeys This site is mainly geared for teaching younger children but it provides sample lesson plans for teens and adults of all learning levels as well. Though you may not want to use the plans themselves, they can inspire you to create your own better tailored to your student(s). Idiom Site Idioms are fun things to teach Japanese students, especially adults, and this site is a good one to help you think of and explain them. Unfortunately my favorite idiom site no longer exists, but this one can also be very useful. |
