Tea Hyakka This is an interesting site written and maintained by sadou enthusiasts of London and New York that provides a good history of the practice’s development and the philosophy behind it. It is written in English and Japanese. Buddhist Corner Though simply a personal website written as a "labor of love" by a graduate student of Japanese studies, it has good information on various traditions and aspects of faith in Japan. Traditional Crafts Written and maintained by the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries and related with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the page gives a good overview of the crafts of Japan including but not limited to pottery, lacquer, textiles, metal work, and more. The site is available in English or Japanese. Costume Museum Maintained by an actual museum in Kyoto, the page shows mannequins from the collection dressed in Japanese fashions from the past. Displays range from the ancient Jomon era right up to the Meiji Restoration. Although the Japanese version is more complete, the English translation isn't bad. Asahi Times Asahi is a basic online newspaper in Japanese although it also provides English translations to many of its stories. News on Japan This is a great site that gives important daily headlines from a plethora of online newspapers and services that range from major newspapers to entertaining tabloids.
