Students are invited to join the Africana Studies program by attending various events on campus which are closely related to this minor. These programs provide further insight to the study of Africa and African Diaspora and promote the concepts of multiculturalism and diversity in our society. Programs are held yearly and are open to all

Africana Heritage Series
The Africana Heritage Series sponsors performing art programs with African and African Diaspora themes which display aspects of cultures and histories of Africana peoples worldwide. This series is part of BGSU's growing initiative to promote culturally diverse circular and programmatic offerings.

Student Research Colloquium
The Student Research Colloquium is an annual scholarly event by the Africana Studies Programs of Bowling Green State University. This program offers students a chance to write, present, and discuss their scholarship in African and African Diaspora studies. BGSU graduate and undergraduate students submit research papers addressing related themes while, Africana Studies faculty review submitted essays and select the best for inclusion in the day-long colloquium. Students in all disciplines are encouraged to participate!

Criteria for paper submission:
Participation is open to all departments and fields
Papers must reflect original research
Papers must be approximately at least 7 pages in length (excluding the bibliography and notes)
Papers must be well written using a professional style manual (such as MLA, Chicago Manual of Style, or APA).
Papers that originate as course research papers should be revised for a broader audience.
Papers must be related to Africana studies, and if possible, related in some way to the colloquium's annual theme.
Students must be currently enrolled at an institution and have a faculty sponsor.
