Diane F. Halpern, Professor of Psychology at Claremont McKenna College in California, is the past-president (2005) of the American Psychological
Association. Halpern has won many awards for her teaching and research, including the 2002 Outstanding Professor Award from
the Western Psychological Association, the 1999 American Psychological Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching, 1996 Distinguished
Career Award for Contributions to Education given by the American Psychological Association, and the California State University’s
State-Wide Outstanding Professor Award. She is the author of many books: Thought and Knowledge: An Introduction to Critical
Thinking; Thinking Critically About Critical Thinking (with Heidi Riggio); Sex Differences in Cognitive Abilities; Enhancing
Thinking Skills in the Sciences and Mathematics; Changing College Classrooms: New Teaching and Learning Strategies for an
Increasingly Complex World; Student Outcomes Assessment; and States of Mind: American and Post-Soviet Perspectives on Contemporary
Issues in Psychology (coedited with Alexander Voiskounsky).
