BGSU Aviation offers students three different degree specializations to choose from: Flight Technology and Operations, Aviation Management & Operations, or Aviation Engineering Technology.

Flight Technology & Operations (Professional Pilot Program)

The Flight Technology and Operations (FTO) specialization is designed to educate and train professional pilots. In addition to being trained as commercial pilots, the students also study general education subjects, aircraft systems, crew concepts, management, and administration. The program is geared toward training students with no previous flight experience with the focus on creating future pilots in the airline and corporate aviation environment. Many students enrolling in our Flight Technology & Operations program begin flying as early as their first semester, usually as soon as their first week. Students can expect to spend an extra $55,000 - $60,000 in addition to regular university tuition over the course of four years. Loans, grants, and scholarships are available to help meet these costs. Despite the additional cost, students say the program is well worth it.

Aviation Management & Operations

The Aviation Management & Operations (AMO) specialization focuses on the business aspects of the aviation industry with course work covering law, air traffic control regulations, construction, planning design, public relations, accounting and economics. Graduates are employed by airports, airlines, engineering and consulting firms, general aviation facilities, and auxiliary businesses with aviation-oriented customers.

Aviation Engineering Technology

The Aviation Engineering Technology (AET) specialization prepares students to become industry leaders in aerospace and aircraft manufacturing, as well as at aviation consulting firms, engineering firms, airlines, and in other technical sectors of the aviation/aerospace industry which focus on the manufacture, design, production, and testing of aviation and aerospace materials and vehicles.

Using industry-standard labs and a blend of science, math, engineering, technology and business management principles and concepts, the aviation engineering technology specialization provides students a hands-on approach to help them effectively master and apply basic and advanced technical and problem-solving skills. The AET curriculum provides for theoretical and project-based training in aerodynamics, aircraft systems, aviation and project management, quality systems, aviation safety, mechanical design, solid modeling, testing of materials, and other aviation and engineering core courses.
