In Brief: December 1

Be a guest at Cinderella’s Christmas Ball

Caryl Crane Youth Theatre at BGSU Firelands invites children and their families to celebrate the holidays at Cinderella’s Christmas Ball on Dec. 3. Join Cinderella and her royal friends to dance, play and create with favorite fairy tale characters.

The ball includes crafts, such as making a Christmas crown with the fairy godmother, treats from Santa’s buffet and entertainment for all. It will take place from 5-7 p.m. in McBride Auditorium at BGSU Firelands. Each group of children must be accompanied by an adult, who must stay for the duration of the event.

Proceeds from the Christmas Ball will help support the more than 1,500 children and families who participate in the youth theatre’s three core programs: Theatre Training Workshop, the five-production theatre series and Teen Board outreach.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 14. Reserve your place by calling 419-372-0732 or email ccytfairytaleball@gmail.com.

BGLA deadline is Dec. 2

The application deadline for the 2017 BG Leadership Academy is Friday (Dec. 2). Faculty and staff participants will have the opportunity to develop their leadership potential and contribute to the continued progress of the University. The academy is offered through the Office of Human Resources.

The format is designed to result in functional solutions that will move the University further toward achieving the goals of its strategic plan.

BGLA will offer a systematic approach for faculty and staff to learn leadership theories and apply them to real institutional initiatives. It will be a five-month integrated program, beginning in January, with seven full-day sessions.

To be eligible to participate, you must be a current, full-time employee with at least two years of experience at BGSU and request that your supervisor provide a “Nominator Rationale.”

Parking Services accepting Toys for Tickets

Students, faculty, staff and community members who have received tickets from the University’s Parking Services are invited to trade in toys for their tickets this holiday season.

Through Dec. 9, anyone who has received a citation between Oct. 1, 2016, and Dec. 9, 2016, can bring it to the BGSU Parking Office with a new, unwrapped toy and have the citation dismissed. The toy must be of similar value to the citation amount. Invalid citations, including forged/illegal permits and those received for parking in a handicap area, do not qualify for this program.

Toys will be donated to the Wood County Children’s Protective Services, which promotes the protection and safety of children and the well-being of families, and the Wood County Children’s Resource Center, which provides mental health and addiction services to children, adolescents and families.

Toys will also be accepted from students, faculty, staff and community members who do not have citations, but who would like to donate to these organizations.
