mission
The Department of Architecture and Environmental Design strives to balance the development of technical knowledge and skill with the cultivation of professional values and leadership abilities necessary for success in our knowledge, information and innovation-driven society.
The Architecture and Environmental Design major is a pre-professional program for students with and interest in pursuing a career in architecture or a related field, such as urban design, computer-aided design and/or historic preservation. The program is an affiliate member of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.
Our graduates earn the Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree and must subsequently obtain a master of architecture degree from an accredited institution to become a licensed professional architect. Approximetely three-forths of our graduates pursue graduate studies at other institutions in Ohio as well as at leading institutions across the United States. Students who choose not to pursue graduate education and licensure are typically employed as technicians and Computer Aided Design staff at architectural firms or similar companies. Graduate-level study is not yet available at BGSU and generally takes two to three years to complete.
