College of Technology
Part-Time Requirements
There are 2 methods in which you can complete a CO-OP course:
1. Full-Time Co-op: Working 40 hours/week for 1 semester.
2. Part-Time Co-op: Working 20 hours/week for 2 consecutive semesters.
TO QUALIFY FOR THE PART-TIME FORMAT: You must be unable to secure a full-time co-op for a valid reason. (Valid reasons include, but are not limited to: failure to secure a Full-Time co-op after a valid search, availability issues, personal family issues, etc.) If this does not describe your situation, then you should not be using the Part-Time format.
Below is a break-down of what is to be completed when, to receive co-op course credit using the Part-Time format:
DURING THE 1st SEMESTER:
- Register for your co-op (you are currently completing this step). You only need to do this ONCE. You do not need to register again during the 2nd semester.
- You verify that you have secured at least 20 hours of work with 1 employer which is directly related to your major.
- Complete and submit your Co-op report by the appropriate due date for this 1st semester.
- Pay tuition (4 credit hours) for the co-op course.
- Follow all rules and regulations given to you by your employer.
- Be sure all is set for your site visit (This will be coordinated with your assigned University Representative)
- Be sure you are working at least 20 hours per week
- At the end of this 1st semester, you will receive a grade of "I" which will then be changed to a grade of "S", pending successful completion of your 2nd semester co-op requirements noted below.
DURING THE 2nd SEMESTER:
- Continue working at least 20 hours per week through the end of the 2nd semester End Date.
- You verify that you have secured at least 20 hours of work with 1 employer which is directly related to your major.
- Follow all rules and regulations given to you by your employer.
- At the end of this 2nd semester, you must have your employer issue a letter to our office, verifying that you have worked at least 20 hours per week for this 2nd consecutive semester.
If this information does not apply to the co-op course you are applying for, you should be using the Full-Time CO-OP course format.
