
Mission
Statement
The mission is to maintain the position of College of Technology
at Bowling Green State University as premier learning community,
a national and international leader in the discipline of Cooperative
Education of institutions of high education offering Technology
Programs.
- To
integrate the students academic program
with on-the-job training, enhancing
classroom learning;
- To
clarify the students area of study
and career goals; and
- To
provide students with a link to their
professional markets, improving post-graduation
job opportunities.
Goals
- To
assure the co-op student is assigned
a work experience that is directly
related to the student’s field of study (technology major).
- To
assure the co-op student receives organizational
oversight and supervision from a supervisor
who knows more about the student’s particular technology than the co-op student.
- To
assure the co-op student receives a
reasonable wage for their work.
- To
assure the co-op student receives feedback
of their performance through the use
of a co-op student performance evaluation
review in conjunction with a faculty/staff
on-site review.
- To
assure the co-op student successfully
completes a written report, evaluation
and assessment of their co-op experience.
- To
assure that each College of Technology
major receive the equivalent of one
year of employment experience in the
field of their major prior to graduation – the BGSU unique imprint of a technology graduate.
The
Cooperative Education Program of the
College of Technology at Bowling Green
State University is a mandatory alternating
program that integrates classroom academics
with practical work experience. College
of Technology majors are required to
participate in three semester-long,
full-time, paid co-op work assignments
which alternate with semesters spent
on campus. The College requires that
the last semester be spent at BGSU attending on-campus course work.
The
Cooperative Education Program is a
direct link to keeping College of Technology
program content and faculty up-to-date
and relevant. This is accomplished
through the faculty university representative
who observes changes and trends in
technology, organization, management,
job content, and demand for jobs, during
the site visit each student experiences,
each and every semester, while completing
a cooperative education experience.
Over
3,000 Different companies and agencies
have participated in the Cooperative
Education Program since 1968. The College
of Technology appreciates and needs
these participating employers. The college could not produce as fine and well prepared graduates as it does
without their integral help.
