Academic Honesty

It is the conviction of the University and its faculty that cheating and plagiarism are destructive to the central purposes of the University and are universally disapproved.

Academic honesty violations are defined as follows:

1. Cheating: Using or attempting to use unauthorized materials, information or study aids in any academic exercise.
2. Fabrication: Falsification or invention of any information or citation in an academic exercise.
3. Facilitating academic dishonesty: Helping or attempting to help another to commit an act of academic dishonesty.
4. Plagiarism: Representing the words or ideas of another as one’s own in any academic exercise.

A full statement of the University’s Academic Honesty Policy is contained in the BGSU Student Code. This statement covers definitions, jurisdiction, procedures, penalties, due process and appeals. The policy is established to protect the integrity of the University and the rights of students. Questions may be addressed to the Office of the Dean or to the Chair of the University Academic Honesty Committee.
