Audition Day

“Stay true to you. There will be times as a music major that time management is key to being successful and staying healthy. Although scheduling practice time and study time is important for your academic career, scheduling ‘you’ time (going to the Rec Center, reading a good book, hanging out with friends, etc.) is equally important.”—Dani Bash, music education

Students and their families should anticipate spending all day on campus for the audition program. Audition events and scheduling complexities of individual audition appointments may require students to be available for the whole day. Audition Repertoire Requirements

Students may be admitted as music majors or minors only after successfully passing an audition. The audition is also used to determine a student’s eligibility for a Music Talent Award. Audition repertoire requirements vary with each performing medium. For a complete list of requirements, see Undergraduate Audition Requirements.

Recorded Auditions

We encourage all applicants to present an in-person campus audition to visit the Moore Musical Arts Center and meet our faculty. However, this may not always be possible.

Students who live more than 250 miles from campus may submit a CD or video (VHS format) audition in lieu of an in-person performance. Recorded auditions will be considered for both entrance and scholarships. To ensure scholarship consideration, recorded auditions must be mailed to arrive at the College of Musical Arts by Friday, February 27.

The recorded audition should consist of selections as described under Undergraduate Audition Requirements. The video or CD should be recorded in stereo utilizing the highest quality equipment available.

Students who submit a recorded audition will complete the required written music theory test at summer orientation and registration.

Please complete and submit the online Audition Reservation Form and mail your recorded audition to: Coordinator of Music Admissions, College of Musical Arts, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403-0290.

For audition questions, call (419) 372-8577.

Audition Results Notification

Admission to Bowling Green State University as a music major or minor is competitive. Notification of an audition decision may occur at any time after the music audition has been evaluated. However, most applicants will be notified of their audition decision beginning the second week of March.

There are two possible audition decisions:

Choosing a Major

Upon approval to major in music, every student will select a suitable major in consultation with an advisor. There may be additional requirements to be fully accepted into your major within music such as performance juries or satisfactory completion of coursework. A complete list of majors is available.

Choosing to Double Major

Students interested in a double major should consult the chairs of the departments involved for information pertaining to the requirements. Double majors must be approved by the chairs of the appropriate departments. Such programs ordinarily require more than eight semesters to complete.
