Master’s Application Process
Audition/interview and application deadline is March 1.
Please send all application materials to Sherri White at the address below.
To be considered for admission to the master’s program, submit:
- BGSU Graduate College Application
- Audition/Interview Reservation Form
- Official undergraduate transcript — two copies
(must be sent directly from the institution not issued to the student) - $45 domestic application fee and $75 international application fee
- Scores from Graduate Record Exam (GRE) sent directly from testing company, General Test only, for students applying in Ethnomusicology, Music Education, Music History and Music Theory. Not required for students applying in Music Performance and Music Composition.

Music Performance applicants must audition in person, unless applicant resides more than 250 miles away from BGSU. In this case, a DVD, URL or video tape will be accepted.
Music Education applicants must present an interview and submit the following:
- a 10-minute, video-taped performance on an instrument or voice
- a continuous 15-minute, video-taped teaching or rehearsal segment
- a writing sample on a topic of the faculty’s choice. (This will be conducted on-site during your interview/audition visit.)
Music Composition, Ethnomusicology, History and Theory applicants must submit representative original works or papers.
To be considered for a Graduate Assistantship, also submit:
- Audition/Interview Reservation Form with the Assistantship Application portion filled out.
- Three letters of recommendation. (These letters should address teaching experience and potential, whenever possible.) It is the applicant’s responsibility to request letters of recommendation. You can print out three copies of the Graduate Letter of Recommendation Form (these forms are for Master’s Candidates ONLY).
- Attend a campus audition/interview, unless candidate is not currently residing in the United States
- A resume
All applicants for music education assistantships must submit the following:
- 10-minute videotaped performance on an instrument or voice
- continuous 15-minute videotaped teaching or rehearsal segment
International Students:
- Must earn the following on the TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language: 550 on the paper-based version, 213 on the computer-based version or 80 on the internet-based version (iBT). Scores must be sent directly to the Graduate College from the testing company.
