Summer 2008 Professional Development Workshops
Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts will host three workshops this summer: Conducting and Rehearsing for Better Bands on June 5–7; Piano Pedagogy Workshop on June 16–18, and Talent Development Workshop on June 23–27.
Conducting and Researching for Better Bands
This workshop features guest clinician Dan Presgrave. Presgrave has been a music faculty member of Washington University since 1972 where, in addition to teaching instrumental conducting, he is the music director/conductor for the Washington University Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. He is also music director/conductor of the Mighty Mississippi Concert Band of Saint Louis and the Saint Louis Wind Symphony. He also serves nationally as a band clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor.
Participants will work in a large ensemble setting and receive one-on-one feedback from Presgrave and BGSU band faculty members. All levels are encouraged to apply.

Piano Pedagogy Workshop
This workshop features Cynthia Benson, associate professor of music education. Other clinicians include Dennis Alexander, Carolyn Miller, Lori Rhoden and Bradley Sowash.
Dennis Alexander is a popular clinician and composer of piano teaching repertoire. Carolyn Miller is a long-time piano instructor and has composed music for piano students in over 35 books. Lori Rhoden is coordinator of piano pedagogy at Ball State University and Bradley Sowash is an accomplished composer and educator of Jazz.
The sessions will include recitals, master classes and teaching strategies.
The cost of the entire workshop is $120 or $50 per day if registered before June 9. Onsite registration is $150 for the entire workshop or $60 per day.

Talent Development Workshop
This workshop will include lectures and master classes along with supervised practice and teaching. The lectures will answer the questions “What is talent?” and “Can it be developed?” and will be taught by Vasile Beluska, professor of violin.
Open to all levels of string educators, the workshop is limited to less than eight participants. The five-day program costs $200.
