Explore Classical and Pop Fusion

Christopher O’Riley, piano

Saturday, February 11, 2012

“O’Riley has found a tantalizing way to bridge pop and classical, and judging by the ovation he got from the nearly full house, he has already won converts.” – The Chicago Tribune

From his groundbreaking transcriptions of Radiohead to his unforgettable interpretations of classic and new repertoire, pianist Christopher O’Riley redefines the possibilities of classical music. As host of the most popular classical music radio show on the air today “From the Top” (nationally distributed on National Public Radio and now TV) Mr. O’Riley also works and performs with the next generation of brilliant young musicians.

Just as his radio show and contemporary classical recordings have created extraordinary buzz, so have his classical performances including a 10 city tour with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Orchestra and appearances with The Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the symphonies of Pittsburgh, Detroit, Colorado, Atlanta and Baltimore.

Explore the fusion of the classical and pop worlds as Mr. O’Riley shares with us a program filled with musical surprises.

ASCAP recognized their contributions to new music with a 2006 Concert Music Award for “the virtuosity, passion and commitment with which they perform and champion the repertory for the 21st century." Their performances have been described as “equal parts exuberance, nonchalance, and virtuosity” by the London Financial Times and as “a triumph of ensemble playing” by the San Francisco Chronicle. The New York Times says Alarm Will Sound is “the future of classical music” and “the very model of modern music chamber band.” Explore their innovative program that will have you spellbound.
