Open to bassoonists and oboists of all ages and abilities. Music Educators are welcome to attend.
Everyone should bring their instrument, reed-making equipment and repertoire if performing in a master class.

EligibilityStudents must be older than 15 and younger than 22 on the competition day.
RepertoireAny work for oboe or bassoon with piano accompaniment. A minimum of 5 minutes of length is required.
- Competitors must submit an unedited CD or DVD recording of themselves performing with piano accompaniment (maximum 10 minutes).
- Electronic submissions are acceptable, email Dr. Nelson to inquire: firstname.lastname@example.org
- The work performed at the competition must be the same as on the audition CD/DVD. Label disk with performer's name, phone number, email address, title of the piece, composer and movement(s) performed.
- To be considered, recordings must be received by Thursday, January 2nd, 2014. If mailing, send recordings to:

Double Reed Day Solo Competition

A maximum of 5 competitors in each of the four categories will be accepted to compete. All entrants will be notified of acceptance in the competition by email no later than January 7th, 2014.

Upon acceptance in the competition, competitors may provide their own pianist or request an accompanist through BGSU. A copy of the piano accompaniment music must be sent with the audition CD/DVD if requesting a BGSU pianist. Note that all works must be performed at the competition with piano.
For each of the four categories a 1st prize, 2nd prize, and Honorable mention will be awarded.
1st Prizes: $75 gift certificate to TrevCo-Varner Music, Certificate of Participation, and performance at the Double Reed Day closing concert.
2nd Prizes: $50 gift certificate to TrevCo-Varner Music and Certificate of Participation

Register today to participate in the Oboe and Bassoon masterclasses with our guest artists and host faculty. Spaces are limited! Participants will be selected to represent a varied repertoire. You will be asked to list your masterclass repertoire on the registration page.
Nancy Ambrose King Masterclass- Will be open to any prepared solos from the standard oboe repertoire, etudes or orchestral excerpts.
Nermis Mieses Masterclass- Will be open to any prepared solos from the standard oboe repertoire, etudes or orchestral excerpts with emphasis on preparation for college studies.
Bassoon Masterclass Continue
Robert Williams Masterclass- Will be focused on standard orchestral excerpts for the bassoon, ensemble playing and audition preparation.
Susan Nelson Masterclass- Will be open to any prepared solos from the standard bassoon repertoire, etudes or orchestral excerpts with emphasis on preparation for college studies.
How to prepare
Keep in mind a masterclass is like a private lesson open to an audience. Therefore your participation must be performance ready.
Note: Concerto competition repertoire is acceptable material for the masterclasses.
From Interstate 75, take Exit 181 to Bowling Green. Go west on Wooster Street, turn right on Mercer, turn left onto Merry, and then left into the first parking lot on the left. Musical Arts Center is located on the northeastern side of campus, on the corner of Ridge and Willard Streets.
