Vienna Choir Boys

October 25, 1983

For nearly five centuries, the Vienna Choir Boys have enchanted millions with the charm and exccellence of their music-making. The choir was founded by imperial decree in 1498, combining the naivete of childhood with artistic maturity. The Imperial Chapel has attracted such musicians as Gluck, Mozart, as composer to the Court in 1787, and Franz Schubert who was a choirboy from 1808 to 1813.

Murray Perahia

November 17, 1983

Murray Perahia came to international prominence as the first American to win the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition. Within barely a decade of international performing, he has earned hte reputation of “one of today’s most practically eloquent masters of the keyboard.”

New World String Quartet

February 13, 1984

The New World String Quartet has emerged as one of America’s leading young quartets. Since winning the 1979 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition, the ensemble has performed in major concert series in Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., New York and the Ravinia Festival, Chicago.

Philip Jones Brass Ensemble

April 11, 1984

The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble was founded in 1951 and pioneered the present day performance of brass chamber music in England. They now travel throughout the world, touring Europe regularly as well as the United States, Australia, the Middle East and Far East.
