BGSU’s first Bratsche Bash with special guest Carol Rodland will take place Saturday, November 8, at the College of Musical Arts at BGSU. It will be a viola-filled day for middle school, high school and college aged violists, including master classes with prominent violists from throughout the Midwest, as well as a brown bag discussion about “Making a Career as a Musician.” The day will conclude with a recital of American viola music featuring guest artist Carol Rodland.
Special Guest Carol Rodland
Carol Rodland made her debut as a viola soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the age of 17 and has subsequently performed to critical acclaim throughout North America and Europe. Recent performances have included solo recitals at Merkin Hall and Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, concerto appeareances with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Davos Festival Orchestra, as well as chamber music concerts as guest violist of the Henschel Quartett throughout Europe and at the Frick Collection and Merkin Hall. Rodland holds bachelor and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Karen Tuttle, as well as an Aufbaustudium Diplom from the Musikhochschule Freiburg, where as a Fulbright Scholar she studied with Kim Kashkashian. She has won first prizes at the Washington International Competiton, the Artists International Auditions and the Juilliard Concerto Competiton, as well as a special prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition. Rodland’s teaching positions have included professorships at the Musikhochschule “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, Arizona State University, New England Conservatory and as guest faculty at the Juilliard School. She has recently accepted a faculty appointmnent at the Eastman School of Music.
