2006–2007 Young People’s Concerts
The very successful inaugural season of the College of Musical Arts’ Young People’s Concerts took place during the 1997–1998 school year, and was the college’s first-ever series planned specifically for children.
The Saturday morning 45-minute programs, created to introduce young people to various styles of music, focused on entertaining and educating, and all included interactive experiences for children. The 2006–2007 season of Young People’s Concerts will present four concerts, and will again focus on different styles and genres of music and instruments.
All 2006–07 YPC concerts will be held in Bryan Recital Hall at the Moore Musical Arts Center.
2006–2007 Schedule
Saturday, October 14, 2006 – Fit As a Fiddle
Violins come in one shape, but many sizes…and so do the people who play this magnificent instrument! Join Dr. Mary Natvig, along with young students from the Creative Arts Suzuki Violin Program and the college’s violin studios and experience the beauty and history of this star of the string family.
Saturday, November 4, 2006 – Horns-A-Plenty
It may not be called “French” anymore, but the horn is a trés magnifique member of the brass group of instruments. Dr. Andrew Pelletier and the BGSU Horn Club will present a fun program featuring the gorgeous and mellow sounds made by plenty of horns!
Saturday, February 17, 2007 – Basses Loaded
The string bass is BIG, and plays a big role in many musical styles. It shines in the low parts of the symphony orchestra, makes jazz sound cool and is a totally huggable instrument. Hear Jeff Halsey and the CMA bass students demonstrate what the amazing bass can do.
Saturday, March 24, 2007 – Percussion!
Dr. Roger Schupp and the BGSU Percussion Ensemble will bang, pound, ding and generally make lots of nifty noises to show the variety of sounds that percussion instruments can have. Bring your sens of rhythm, ‘cause you may get a chance to play along!
All performances will take place at 11 a.m. in the Moore Musical Arts Center. Admission is $1 for children, and $2 for adults, and is payable at the Box Office the morning of the concert. The Box Office will open at 10:30 a.m. for each concert.
