The Louise F. Rees Memorial Concert
“… [Cantus] revels in a heft of sound hardly imagined possible from 10 men singing without accompaniment. At times… Cantus sounded 50 voices strong.“ —Los Angeles Times
Cantus sings with one of the freshest and most engaging sounds in choral music today. From art songs to folk songs, from Smokey Robinson to Richard Strauss, its brilliant sound, innovative programming and heart-felt singing have garnered the highest praise from critics and audiences alike. Founded in 2000, with no singer over the age of 25, Cantus is America’s newest full-time all-male vocal ensemble. The group will also conduct a two-day community mini-residency while in Bowling Green.
Single tickets: $18, $26 and $34
Time for Three
Friday, January 13, 2006
Zachary De Pue, violin
Nicolas Kendall, violin
Ranaan Meyer, bass
“These remarkable young men exude fine musicianship, stunning virtuosity and irresistible excitement. They’re definitely a triple threat… or better yet, a triple treat!” —Gary Graffman, director, Curtis Institute of Music
“Time for Three is the future of music. Simply put, they’re a knockout!” —Simon Rattle, conductor
Time for Three’s founding members, violinists Zachary DePue (a native of Bowling Green) and Nicolas Kendall and double bassist Ranaan Meyer, came together while enrolled at the Curtis Institute of Music. What started as a trio of exciting young string musicians who played together for fun in their spare time has evolved into a charismatic ensemble that draws on its reputation for having limitless enthusiasm and no musical boundaries. With a mutual love of “fiddling” in the country and western and bluegrass styles, the group has brought its heady mix of virtuosic bluegrass, Hungarian gypsy, jazz and even vamped-up Bach to major concert halls, television, folk festivals and classical festivals throughout the United States.
Single tickets: $22, $30 and $38
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo
Thursday, February 2, 2006
“Their program of grand ballet is as much food for the mind as it is for the eye and he funny bone.” —The New York Times
Dancing the fine line between high art and high camp, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo has delighted audiences around the world. Parodying classical works from Swan Lake to Giselle and the choreography of Isadora Duncan, George Balanchine and Martha Graham, the Trocks combine a loving knowledge of dance with a wicked comedic sensibility. Since its inception in 1974, this all-male ensemble has established itself as a major dance phenomenon, appearing at dance festivals in New York, Spoleto (Italy), Holland, Vienna and Paris. The humorous sight of male bodies delicately balancing in toe shoes as swans, sylphs, and water sprites – the gleeful leaps, poses and plunges – delight, amuse and serve the Trockaderos’ original purpose: to bring the pleasure of dance to the widest possible audience. This is their second visit to Bowling Green.
Single tickets: $25, $32 and $40
I MUSICI
Stephen Hough, piano
Thursday, March 2, 2006
The Lois M. Nitschke Memorial Concert
Founded in 1952 in Rome, and made up of graduates of the prestigious Accademia di Santa Cecilia, I MUSICI’s remarkable quality has always been, since its beginning, to extract from its ensemble all the required soloists—individually and in diverse instrumental combinations. This allows the ensemble to offer programs that are richly balanced both in styles and tonal colors. The ensemble boasts an astonishing list of recordings, which reflect the total dedication and respect for the style and taste of each performer. The New York Times raved about I MUSICI: “In every style they bring the essential impulse of life—the result is playing of verve, stylistic purity and impeccable artistry.” Highly acclaimed for his performances of standard repertoire, in recital and with the world's finest orchestras, Stephen Hough combines the imagination and pianistic color of the past with the scholarship of the present. Hough will be the featured soloist with I MUSICI in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 14 in E-flat Major.
Single tickets: $22, $30 and $38

“The most lyrical piano player of our time.” —Jazz Weekly
Throughout his career, Kenny Barron has been the pianist of choice for some of jazz’s greatest musicians. Recognized the world over as a master of performance and composition, his ability to mesmerize audiences with his elegant playing, sensitive melodies and infectious rhythms inspired The Los Angeles Times to name him “one of the top jazz pianists in the world.” Barron consistently wins the jazz critics and readers polls, including Downbeat, JazzTimes and Jazziz magazines, and has been named “Best Pianist” by the Jazz Journalists Association the past four years in a row.
