Join the Enso String Quartet for an informal performance before the 8:00 visual music screening.

The visual music screening features works by guests Allan Schindler, Stephanie Maxwell and Jean Detheux with selections from the 2007 Northeastern University Visual Music Marathon.

Thursday, October 18

Seminar: 10:00 a.m., Bryan Recital Hall

Guest Visual Music artists Jean Detheux, Allan Schindler and Stephanie Maxwell discuss their work.

Seminar: 12:00 p.m., Wood County District Public Library

Guest performer Zhou Yi discusses the pipa and its role in both traditional Chinese music and contemporary concert music.

Seminar: 4:00 p.m., Bryan Recital Hall

Special Guest Composer Chen Yi discusses her works and compositional style.

In Focus: Berio’s Sequenza VIIa for solo oboe. Oboe professor Jacqueline Leclair discusses one of Luciano Berio’s most important and innovative solo works.

Concert 3: 2:30 p.m., Kobacker Hall

Works by Marilyn Shrude, Chen Yi, Rob Smith and Joseph Dangerfield, performed by the Collegiate Chorale, New Music Ensemble and BGSU faculty and students.

Works by Larry Austin, I Made Arnawa, Chen Yi and Thomas Reiner performed by pipa virtuoso Zhou Yi, Gamelan Kusuma Sari, the New Music Ensemble, the Hayabusa Taiko Ensemble, University Performing Dancers and BGSU faculty.

Guest visual music artist Jean Detheux discusses the history of the medium.

Robert Glenn Ketchum, Conservation and Photography: a Long Evolving History

Internationally honored artist, environmental activist, writer and lecturer Robert Glenn Ketchum is at the forefront of environmental issues critiquing the management of Alaska’s fisheries, pro-development legislature, and fighting advancement of industrial oil.

Exhibition Opening: Water Works: 7:00 p.m., Fine Arts Center Galleries

In this exhibition, artist-activists create awareness and generate action on important water issues, featuring Southwest Alaska: A World of National Parks and Wildlife Refuges, photography by Robert Glenn Ketchum; major water project documentations by Jackie Brookner and Betsy Damon; Fluid Geographies, an installation by Eve Andree Laramee; Water Piece by Stacy Levy and Waterborne Dis/ease and Non-Potable Agua by Basia Irland.

Concert 6: 8:00 p.m., Kobacker Hall ($)

Works by Chen Yi, Michael Albaugh, W. Claude Baker, John Mackey, John Stevens and Bright Sheng, performed by the Bowling Green Philharmonia and Wind Symphony.
