The 2012 Bowling Green New Music Festival will be a wide-reaching interdisciplinary gathering curated with guest composer John Luther Adams and featuring prize-winning author Barry Lopez, artist Marina Rosenfeld and many other guest composers, performers and scholars. Titled "Music and the Physical World," this festival’s events will focus on music, the written word, visual art and science, exploring topics about nature, sustainability and the interconnectedness of all things. Other featured guests will include the JACK Quartet, ecomusicologist Aaron Allen and percussionist Doug Perkins.
Organized by the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music and the College of Musical Arts, the festival has hosted John Adams, Samuel Adler, Milton Babbitt, William Bolcom, Anthony Braxton, John Cage, Chen Yi, John Corigliano, George Crumb, Mario Davidovsky, Anthony Davis, Philip Glass, John Harbison, Lou Harrison, Karel Husa, Joan La Barbara, David Lang, Paul Lansky, Robert Morris, Pauline Oliveros, Shulamit Ran, Bernard Rands, Terry Riley, Christopher Rouse, Frederic Rzewski, Gunther Schuller, Joseph Schwantner, Bright Sheng, Steven Stucky, Morton Subotnick, Joan Tower, Vladimir Ussachevsky and more than 350 other guest composers and musicians since 1980.

Exhibition Opening: Marina Rosenfeld, WHITE LINES
WHITE LINES is a modular composition, first performed in 2004, that aspires to make musical notation legible to audiences as well as musicians, rendering the usually invisible or concealed act of "reading" music both social and functional.

Film Screening/Performance: A screening of Leonard Kamerling's Strange and Sacred Noise, a filmed version of the work by John Luther Adams, and multimedia works by Lesley Flanigan and Peter Swendsen.

Young Composers' Concert: Music by students from the MACCM Institute and winners of the 2012 BGSU Young Composers Competition.

Concert: Orchestral and wind ensemble works by John Luther Adams, Martin Herchenröder, Armando Bayolo, Mason Bates, Ursula Mamlok and Xiaogang Ye, performed by the BGSU Philharmonia and Wind Symphony.

Most events are free and open to the public.
Tickets for the Saturday night concert may be purchased online by going to http://www.bgsu.edu/arts. Online tickets will be available up to midnight the night before the concert.
To purchase tickets in person or by phone, please call 419-372-8171 or visit the Arts Box Office, located in the Wolfe Center for the Arts, Monday-Friday, noon-5 p.m.
The College of Musical Arts Box Office will be open two hours prior to the performance in Kobacker Hall.

Parking is available in lots 1 and 16 after 7 p.m. Both these lots are located to the north of the the Moore Musical Arts Center. A one-day visitor’s pass can be obtained from the Visitor’s Information Center, located off Wooster Street in front of the football stadium, if parking is needed before this time.
