30th Annual New Music Festival - Schedule of Events

Thursday, October 22

Festival Preview: Noon, Wood County District Public Library

Festival guests give the community a first look at the weekend's events.

Composer Talk -Steven Stucky: 3:30 p.m., Bryan Recital Hall

Special guest composer Steven Stucky discusses his works and compositional style.

Concert 1: 8 p.m., Kobacker Hall ($)

A concert featuring chamber and wind ensemble works by David Froom, Kristin Kuster, David Lang, Wayne Oquin and Steven Stucky, performed by BGSU faculty, soprano Deborah Norin-Kuehn and the Wind Symphony.

Late-Night Performance: 10 p.m., Cla-Zel Theatre

A special late-night concert at the newly-renovated Cla-Zel featuring members of the International Contemporary Ensemble performing works by Nathan Davis, Mario Diaz de Leon, Du Yun, Peter Evans, Dai Fujikura and Steve Reich.

Friday, October 23

Concert 2: 10:30 a.m., Bryan Recital Hall (*)

Works by Rule Beasley, Kurt Doles, Shane Hoose, Gregory Mertl and Steven Stucky, performed by BGSU faculty, students and the New Music Ensemble.

Concert 3: 2:30 p.m., Kobacker Hall

Electroacoustic works by John Gibson, Elainie Lillios, Allan Schindler and Robert Scott Thompson.

The Music of Steven Stucky: 4:00 p.m., Bryan Recital Hall

Presentations on the music of Steven Stucky, given by Brian Robison and Elizabeth Swanson.

Concert 4: 8:00 p.m., Kobacker Hall

The International Contemporary Ensemble performs works by Georges Aperghis, Elliott Carter, Reiko Fueting, Edgar Guzman, Philippe Hurel, Magnus Lindberg and Kaija Saariaho.

Saturday, October 24

Concert 5: 10:30 a.m., Bryan Recital Hall

Works by Rule Beasley, Per Bloland, Thomas Osborne, Andrea Reinkemeyer and Toru Takemitsu, performed by BGSU faculty, students and guests.

Concert 6: 2:30 p.m., Bryan Recital Hall

Works by Mikel Kuehn, John Anthony Lennon, Seung-Ah Oh, Steve Ricks and Harvey Sollberger, with performances by BGSU faculty, guests and the International Contemporary Ensemble.

Pre-Concert Talk: p.m., Bryan Recital Hall

Erica Muhl, Marilyn Shrude and Steven Stucky discuss their works that are programmed on the 8 p.m. concert.

Concert 7: 8:00 p.m., Kobacker Hall ($)

Works by Witold Lutoslawski, Erica Muhl, Marilyn Shrude and Steven Stucky, performed by the Bowling Green Philharmonia and New Music Ensemble, with baritone soloist Jesse Blumberg.
