30th Annual New Music Festival International Calls for Works

Call for Papers *UPDATED 04/09*

The MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music at Bowling Green State University's College of Musical Arts invites proposals for a special session on "The Music of Steven Stucky." The paper session will take place during the internationally acclaimed 30th New Music Festival to be held October 22-24, 2009. Special guests at the festival include composer Steven Stucky and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). We are interested in papers that address general topics related to Stucky's music as well as presentations on individual compositions (in particular, but not limited to Album Leaves, for solo piano; Ad Parnassum, for chamber ensemble; and DreamWaltzes, for orchestra). The papers will be scheduled in thirty-minute time slots (twenty for the paper and ten for discussion) on Friday, October 23 at 4PM. The festival will consist of approximately seven concerts of contemporary music. Also featured will be a handful of guest composers who will be present at the festival for performances of their music.

Application Procedures

Please email abstracts of 500 words or less in PDF or MS Word format to Kurt Doles at the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music (kdoles@bgsu.edu). Abstracts should not identify the author and should clearly outline the objective of the paper, its relationship to the session topic and should cite specific composers/works that will be addressed. The deadline for abstracts is June 8, 2009.
