Introduction
Mr. Shore, originally from Ashtabula, Ohio, graduated from Bowling Green State University in June of 1975. After working in the retail field for two years, he moved to Los Angeles, California in 1977. For the next five years he was self-employed as a freelance writer. His work appeared in the L.A. Weekly, Los Angeles Magazine, New West, etc. His article “Bouncin' At the Whisky” was chosen to be part of the anthology “Unknown California”, along with works by Norman Mailer, Joan Didion, and others.
In 1982, Mr. Shore took a position as a researcher on the television show You Asked For It. In 1984 he worked at the ABC network as a live show producer. From 1986 to 1989 Mr. Shore produced, wrote and supervised the editing of promos for Columbia Pictures Television, and produced segments for several projects at the Disney Channel.
Mr. Shore produced Pump It Up for Fox Television in 1989. The show was subsequently picked up for syndication by Twentieth Century Television. After Pump It Up was canceled, in 1991, he signed on as a staff producer on Entertaimnent Daily Journal at Fox Television, and produced/directed the home video documentary A History of Burlesque for PEl productions. From 1992 to 1994 he was a producer for Hard Copy at Paramount Productions, as well as Extra (WB) and produced/wrote the series Our Town, a celebrity travel show, for Riverstreet Production.
In 1994, Mr. Shore joined E! Entertaimnent Television as a producer. He created, developed, produced, wrote and directed the first True Hollywood Story, entitled “The Stalking and Murder of Rebecca Schaeffer, The E! True Hollywood Story”. It aired on March 30, 1996. It was the highest non live-event rated show in E! 's history. Mr. Shore produced, directed and wrote three more True Hollywood Story programs: “Sam Kinison”, “The Carpenters” and “Selena” before becoming Supervising Producer of the series.
In 1998, Mr. Shore was elevated to Executive Producer, True Hollywood Story. In past years, True Hollywood Story has won numerous awards, including two Gracie Awards (given by the Society of Women in Radio and Television) and four Prism Awards (given by the Entertaimnent Industry Council). The series has had programs nominated for Imogen and GLAAD awards.
In addition to his responsibilities on True Hollywood Story, Mr. Shore has been the Executive Producer of “Celebrity Profiles” and is currently Executive Producer of E! Original Specials and “Celebrity Homes”. Also, Mr. Shore acted as liaison for E! film division with Shavick Entertaimnent, and oversaw the filming of three E! movies: “Becoming Dick”, “Spinning Out of Control” and Murder at Carmes”, as well as the filmed anthology series “Hollywood Offramp”.
As a writer, Mr. Shore's play “Cat Killer” premiered locally at the Regent theatre. “Act of Contrition” was a finalist for the Jean Harris Playwriting Award. One of his recent screenplays, "Heartstopper", was purchased by Morgan Creek Production company, a subsidiary of WB.
Scope and Content
The Jeffrey Shore Collection is comprised of ca. 63 linear feet of videos and miscellaneous materials related to Jeffrey Shore's career in television. The videos date from the 1980s-present and include VHS and DVD formats. The videos are arranged by category including “For your emmy consideration”, “E True Hollywood Stories”, and miscellaneous commercial videos. The first category of emmy consideration videos is arranged by television broadcasting company (i.e. A & E, Lifetime, HBO). These include TV shows and movies. Many of these are packaged as large sets of various videos, rather than individually. E! True Hollywood videos are arranged in order by season. Miscellaneous videos have no particular arrangement. Therefore, an alphabetical listing is provided in addition to the regular finding aid.
The miscellaneous materials include items such as clothes, paper products, toys, etc. This comprises one box of materials.
