Introduction
Jay Mechling is an Associate Professor and Chair of the American Studies Program at the University of California, Davis. He is the author of numerous articles pertaining to various aspects of American Studies, Popular Culture, and the Boy Scouts.
In 1984, this collection of articles was transferred to the Popular Culture Library, Bowling Green State University. The collection is open for research, but permission to cite or quote must be obtained from the author. Photocopying of manuscripts must comply with applicable copyright laws. This register was compiled by Nancy White Lee, Popular Culture Library Associate II, in June 1986, and updated in August 2009 by Patricia Falk.
Biographical Sketch
Jay Mechling was raised in Miami Beach, Florida. He completed his graduate work in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a Fellow at the Yale National Humanities Institute, New Haven, Connecticut, during 1975-1976. Mechling currently is Associate Professor and Chair of the American Studies Program at the University of California, Davis. He is married to Elizabeth Walker Mechling, Associate Professor and Chair of the Marketing Department, School of Business and Economics, California State University, Hayward, California.
Scope and Content
The Jay Mechling Collectionhouses photocopies and reprints of published articles, dating from 1979 through 1984. Included are lists of published articles, articles being considered for publication, and papers and speeches also being considered for publication.
Researchers interested in current research and publishing in American studies will find this collection of value.
