Introduction
The Chelsea Quinn Yarbro Collection is comprised of 17 cubic feet of manuscripts and correspondence from 1978-1999. The manuscripts include primarily historic and contemporary horror novels and some western, science fiction, and romantic suspense. The collection was donated to the Browne Popular Culture Library February to May 1999 and has no restrictions placed upon its use for scholarly purposes. Researchers are responsible for securing copyright permission from the author when duplicating any unpublished or published works included in the collection. The finding aid was completed by Patricia Falk in February 2010.
Biography
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro was born in Berkeley, California, September 15, 1942. She became a professional writer in 1968 and has written over 60 novels and short stories in such genres as horror, western, and science fiction. She has won awards for her historic and contemporary horror novels and short stories and was the first female president of the Horror Writers Association. She has been active in other areas including music, palm and tarot reading and the occult. Yarbro continues to live and write in Berkeley.
Scope and Content
Manuscripts for horror and science fiction novels comprise the majority of the Chelsea Quinn Yarbro Collection. Researchers will principally find a manuscript and an edited copy of most titles. Certain titles include either galleys, book proposals, or book covers. There is a very limited amount of correspondence regarding two specific novels and some scattered correspondence from 1976-1988.
