Introduction
Jennette Letton is an author of historical drama and suspense novels. Literary manuscripts form the core of this collection. In 1969, Jennette Letton began transferring her manuscripts to the Popular Culture Library, Bowling Green State University.
The collection is open for research, but photocopying of manuscripts must comply with applicable copyright laws. This register was compiled by Nancy White Lee, Popular Culture Library Associate II, in May 1986, and updated in August 2009 by Patricia Falk.
Biographical Sketch
Jennette Dowling Letton, writer and dramatist, originated from Boston and married Francis Letton on October 30, 1937. They lived in New York City until Francis graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Later, they moved to Connecticut and managed a small summer theatre. Their play, The Young Elizabeth, enjoyed a long and successful run in London's West End.
Both Jennette and Francis have been active in radio, television and stage in and around the New York City area. They have two children.
Transfer
The Young Elizabeth, the novel, has been transferred from the collection to the Browne Popular Culture Library main stack area. The call number for this book may be found in the BGSU Libraries Catalog.
Scope and Content
The Jennette Letton Collection houses the literary manuscripts for her books and one play The Young Elizabeth. The play manuscript, published by Elak Books, 1952, is available in the Browne Popular Culture Library. The Young Elizabeth was published in novel form by Harper, 1953. In play form, it was also published by Samuel French, 1953, and Dramatists Play Service, 1955.
Two manuscripts, Robsart Affair and The Young Elizabeth, are co-authored with her husband, Francis Letton.
The Jenny And I manuscript was Letton's first venture into the field of suspense. The other manuscripts are historical drama novels.
