Introduction 

Cathie Linz is a contemporary author of romance novels. Notes, galleys to one manuscript and ten original, copy-edited manuscripts comprise the core of this collection.

Cathie Linz transferred her manuscripts to the Browne Popular Culture Library, Bowling Green State University, in June 1997. The collection is open for research, but photocopying or other duplication of manuscripts must comply with applicable copyright laws. This register was compiled by Kirk Richardson under the supervision of Jean Geist, Popular Culture Library Associate II in February 1998. It was updated in September 2009 by Patricia Falk.

Biographical Sketch  

Cathie Linz was born in Chicago, IL in 1956. She had her first literary success in the third grade, winning second prize for a four-page "book" she wrote. However, she did not resume writing until 1979. Linz had been working for five years as a law librarian at Northern Illinois University Law School, and when she was hospitalized for emergency surgery, she resolved to stop wasting time and write a book.

Deciding on a subject was easy. "I write what I love to read," says Linz, who read her first romance when she was a freshman in high school and became an immediate convert to the genre (she still reads about 20 romances a month).

After completing her first manuscript, Linz quit her library job and gave herself one year to sell it. Two weeks short of a year later, Dell Publishing bought Remembrance of Love. After putting out 12 more Dell books, Linz then signed on with Silhouette, where she now writes for a sexy, contemporary series known as the "Desire" line.

Scope and Content 

The Cathie Linz Collection houses the Original, copy edited manuscript for sixteen of her works, one of Sharon Ihle's publications, and one of Jill Barnett's publications as well as promotional materials for Linz's romantic novels. Other promotional materials include two signed book flats for Kathleen Morgan and Constance O'Day Flannery plus signed artwork for Kristin Hannah's Enchantment. These manuscripts and materials form a particularly strong core for this collection, for they address not only the inception of a book, but the method by which the book is publicized to consumers.

Researchers interested in romantic fiction and the writing process will find this collection useful.
