Introduction
Rebecca A. Freligh is a feature writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. An original manuscript with editorial corrections comprises the core of this collection.
Rebecca A. Freligh transferred her manuscript to the Browne Popular Culture Library, Bowling Green State University, in August
1993. The collection is open for research, but photocopying or other duplication of manuscripts must comply with applicable copyright laws. This register was compiled by Kirk Richardson under the supervision of Jean Geist, Popular
Culture Library Associate II in February 1997 and was updated in September 2009 by Patricia Falk.
Biographical Sketch
Rebecca A. Freligh was born on January 22, 1949, in Adrian, Michigan. Completing her undergraduate work at Michigan State
University in 1971, she also went on to graduate from the University of Michigan's law school in 1977. She is a member of
the bar in the state of New York and practiced briefly for a firm in downtown New York City. She returned to Ann Arbor, Michigan,
in order to earn an M.A. in communications, specializing in print journalism, from the Rackham Graduate School in 1982. Since
then she has held several writing jobs, the longest-lasting being the one she holds now, as a feature writer for The Plain Dealer, Cleveland's daily newspaper. She has been a staff writer since 1985.
From Elsie Dinsmore to Nancy Drew: Girls' Series Books in American Culture was her senior thesis project, written in fulfillment of requirements for the undergraduate honors history program at Michigan
State University.
