PCL MS-206: Valerie Taylor Collection

Introduction

The Valerie Taylor Collection is comprised of 1.5 cubic feet of documents dating from 1992-2003. It consists of manuscripts of novels as well as writing notes. Subject Files include general correspondence, Romance Writers of America membership materials, two magazines and two folders of writer's guidelines for publication in various periodicals.

Valerie Taylor transferred her collection to the Browne Popular Culture Library at Bowling Green State University in October 2002. The collection has no restrictions placed on its use for scholarly purposes. Researchers are responsible for securing copyright permission when using all unpublished manuscripts and published works, whether authored by Valerie Taylor or by other writers whose works may be found in this collection.

Biographical Sketch

Valerie Taylor was named Romance Writers Association's 1997 Notable New Author for her first book, The Mommy School. This novel also won the 1998 Holt Medallion for Short Contemporary Romance. She has also had two other novels published, The World's Best Dad and Broken Rules.

She lives in Cincinnati with her husband and their two children.

Scope and Content

The Valerie Taylor Collection is comprised of 1.5 cubic feet of novel manuscripts, editor's corrections and writing notes. There is one folder of correspondence from individuals critiquing her manuscripts. A copy of a manuscript by Mary Jo Putney completes the series.

The printed materials include membership materials from Romance Writers of America, a Harlequin Romance Report, a copy of Publisher's Weekly magazine, one folder of general correspondence and two folders of writer's guidelines for publication or articles in various periodicals.

This collection would provide researchers with an overview of the writing and publication process.

Series Description

Literary Manuscripts: Manuscripts by Valerie Taylor; 1997 - 2000; Arranged chronologically; Valerie Taylor's manuscripts include original and edited manuscripts, editor's copies of manuscripts and the author's writing notes. Correspondence is from those critiquing the author's writing as well as research information sought by the author to develop the story. The manuscripts are broken into sections of 2-3 chapters.; Manuscripts by Others; 2000; No arrangement; Includes manuscript of a novel Spiral Path by Mary Jo Putney.

Printed Material: 1992 - 2003; Arranged chronologically; Includes a variety of membership materials from the Romance Writers of America, guidelines for publication in various periodicals, general correspondence, 1994 Harlequin Romance Report, and one copy of Publisher's Weekly magazine.
