Introduction

Sylvie Kurtz transferred her collection to the Browne Popular Culture Library at Bowling Green State University in August 1998, with additional donations made from 1999 to 2005. The collection has no restrictions placed on its use for scholarly purposes. Researchers are responsible for securing copyright permission when using all unpublished and published works, whether authored by Sylvie Kurtz or by other writers whose works may be found in this collection.

This finding aid was prepared by Mary Koslovsky in February 2006.

Biographical Sketch

Sylvie Kurtz made the decision to become a writer while flying an eight hour solo flight across the country in a Pipe Arrow plane. She realized that the stories from her imagination were more entertaining than a pilot's life. Although she went on to earn her pilot's license, she began to write down her fictional adventures and submit them for publication.

Her romance novels combine a belief in the power of love and the thrill of suspense. She has published several romance and suspense novels. Her work has been nominated for awards by Romantic Times, including “Best First--Category Romance”, “Best Harlequin Intrigue” and the Romantic Times Bookclub Magazine “Career Achievement for Series Romantic Adventure.” She recently accepted a contract to write three more Harlequin Intrigues - one gothic and two more of “The Seekers” series.

When not writing, she enjoys the outdoors with her family, quilt-making, photography and reading.

Scope and Content

The Sylvie Kurtz Collection contains 5 cubic feet of manuscripts, correspondence, proofs, galleys, notes, promotional items, and reviews, dating from 1996-2005. The 4.5 cubic feet of novel manuscripts make up the largest part of the collection. Because of the completeness of this series, the researcher can trace the evolution of many of her works from story outlines to publication. Also included are notes on character development and revisions. In addition, there are interviews with the author.

The correspondence comprises one-half cubic foot of the collection. Editorial correspondence (1999-2002) contains her correspondence with editors, other writers and research resources. Reader correspondence (1999-2002 plus undated) contains personal opinions and questions from the public.

Series Description

Literary Manuscripts: Novel Manuscripts; 1996-2005; Arranged chronologically; May include an edited manuscript, proofs and galleys, notes with story background, character information, and synopsis. Promotional items relating to the novel are filed with the manuscripts and may include cover art, style sheets, book covers and bookmarks.

Correspondence: Editorial Correspondence; 1999-2002 and undated; Arranged chronologically; Correspondence from editors, other writers, and author requests for background information to help with character development.; Reader Correspondence; 1999-2002; Arranged chronologically; Correspondence from individual readers.
