Locating Reviews

The purpose of this exercise is twofold. You will gain additional insight into Jeannette Walls' The Glass Castle and you will learn about some of the Library's research databases. The library research databases, for the most part, contain full-text articles from both popular and scholarly sources. The information is more organized and the search capabilites are more sophisticated than what you would find on the free Internet. For many of your academic assignments, it will be more appropriate and efficient to use the Library research databases. One of the databases that is most often, though not exclusively, used by first-year students is Academic Search Complete. Here's how to get it:

Here are some tips for searching within this database:

Academic Search Complete
This database will automatically look for multiple words entered in the FIND boxes as a phrase. So if you enter The Glass Castle in the first FIND box, you should retrieve articles with that exact phrase. To be sure that the articles relate specifically to Walls' book, it may be a good idea to enter your search by using the first two FIND boxes as follows: put the glass castle in the first FIND box and walls in the second FIND box.
Follow the links to HTML Full Text or to PDF Full Text to print the complete article. The Find It!" link may lead you to full text as well. This page will also help you determine if the Library owns a print copy in the Library collection if the full text is not available. If you are having difficulty following the links to determine the availability of an article, check with a reference librarian.

Directions:

Find at least two articles about Into the Forest from Academic Search Premier. Print each article and attach it to this assignment. Provide the following additional information:
Title of article:

What aspect of this article did you find thought provoking?

Title of article:

It is possible for you to complete all or most of this assignment from your residence hall or off-campus. Don't hesitate to ask for assistance with the research databases from a librarian or student assistant at the Research and Information Desk located on the first floor of Jerome Library.
