Serials Office

The Serials Office coordinates the ordering and receiving of electronic resources and print periodicals, newspapers, standing orders, and many of the microforms received by Jerome, Ogg and the branch libraries.

“Current” (recently received) issues are shelved separately from older, bound volumes. Stored periodicals are housed in the Northwest Ohio Regional Book Depository. Request next-day delivery of volumes held in storage at the Circulation Desk.

Jerome Library houses the social sciences and humanities periodicals. Most are shelved in alphabetical order on the first floor. Others are housed in various Branch Libraries. Science periodicals are located in Ogg Science Library. All information regarding the location and holdings of periodicals is available in the BGSU Libraries Catalog.

For assistance locating periodicals and retrieving microforms, go to the Research and Information Desk.

For assistance using copiers, go to the Reserve Room.

To use microform equipment, go the Reserve Room.

For Binding information, consult the Binding Services page.

Periodical Services

Checking out periodicals

Periodicals usually do not circulate out of the building. Exceptions are made for faculty and graduate students who have access to a departmental photocopy machine and to those who need to make photographs or slides for a class. In both cases, the loan period is 3 hours. Fines of $1.00 per hour are levied for late returns. Ask at the Research and Information Desk for assistance.

Microforms

Microfilm and microfiche from the Microforms Collection at Jerome Library are self-served by patrons. Fiche duplication is available by prior arrangement at the Periodicals Desk for $.20 per fiche duplicate. Portable fiche readers may be checked out of the Reserve Room for use with fiche duplicates.

Missing periodicals

Searches for missing periodicals may be requested at the Periodicals Desk. Patrons will be notified of search results within 4 working days.

Black and white photocopiers, which can reduce or enlarge, are available in the Photocopy Room (next to the microform cabinets).

Transparencies and double-sided copies can be produced on a black and white copier in the Reserve Room only.

Copy cards or library debit cards may be purchased in the Photocopy Room and at the Circulation Desk. A card costs $1.00. We suggest adding no more than $10.00 value to these re-usable copy cards since they are frequently lost or left behind. Up to $99.00 in value may be added, though. Be sure to write your name and phone number on the back of the card!
