Content Description:  Transcripts of interviews with people who immigrated to the United States and came through Ellis Island or with people who worked at Ellis Island. Most of the immigrants arrived in the early 20th century. They talk about conditions in their homeland, why they chose to immigrate, how they traveled to the U.S., the experience of going through Ellis Island, and how they settled in the U.S. and acclimated to American society and culture. Most of these immigrants came from Europe, but there were a few from other countries such as Argentina, Palestine, Lebanon, or Syria.
