Nearly 1,400 libraries participate in the depository program to form a national network of federal government resources. These
libraries provide free public access to government information distributed by the Government Printing Office, the largest
publisher in the world. Many depositories also collect state, local, and international materials.
FDLP--The Federal Depository Library Program
Traditionally government information has been distributed in a variety of formats--paper, maps, microforms, posters, and photographs.
Today we are moving toward electronic formats, from CD-ROMs to agency-created databases to electronic only publications.
Selective depositories, like BGSU, receive only selected items specific to their clients' needs and are located in all the
congressional districts. Regional depositories receive all federal items and are spread across the country--usually one in
each state. The Regionals support the information needs of both their users and the selective depositories they serve.
