This Webquest is designed so you can let your students use what they learned in Esperanza Rising and explore some of the issues the book touched on. Putting students into groups to work on this magazine gives students a chance to work in a real life situation where they must work with others to make a quality product with a deadline.

This activity enables students to gather information off of the internet and synthesize it to make interesting and informative articles that their group members and their class can learn from. Incorporating internet research, writing, group work and the use of graphics makes for an interesting and challenging task for the students and hopefully provides them with a product they can be proud of.

To know how to evaluate and score each group's work look under "Evaluation" to the left. Here you will find a rubric that makes both individuals and whole groups accountable for their work.

Click on the "standards" button to the left to view the academic content standards that this webquest covers. Also, if you are interested in other books with strong female characters and good messages check out the Literature Collection, which includes an additional lesson for Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry by Mildred Taylor.
