By 1968, the population of the University had grown such that it warranted construction of another dormitory. Thus, the University
approved plans for the construction of another building for that purpose. However, the administration intended the building
to be different from previous dormitories constructed on campus. Indeed, Offenhauer Towers was to be the first "high-rise"
dormitory on campus as well as the first "plush dorm on campus." Since its construction, the building has been one of the
most popular residence halls for students living on campus. The large rooms, modern interior design, and close proximity to
the buildings on campus continue to be the main attractions.

Listed below are additional highlights in the history of the building:
- 1968, Board of Trustees approves plans for the construction of a "plush dorm on campus" including a photo lab, leather shop,
sewing room, game room, weight room, and library.
- 1971, construction completed at a final cost of $9.4 million.
- 1971, new room charges system instituted on campus with Offenhauer Towers being the most expensive, and the oldest dormitories
the least.
- 1999, Board of Trustees approves $2.2 million renovation project. Improvements will include internal improvements, new carpet,
remodeling of lamps, painting corridors, stairways, and resident rooms.
- 2001, masonry/brick staining project.
- 2002, kitchenettes updated in unit director's apartments along with reworking of plumbing.
- 2002, plans to update walls and floors in elevator cars to match the new décor to be done in 2003.
