Given the expanding number of intercollegiate teams and the increasing popularity of intramural and club sports at the University,
the university administrators approved plans for the construction of a brand new facility specifically for use by those groups.

Indeed, since its completion in 1992, the Field House has provided a home to many Health and Physical Education classes, off-season
training programs of intercollegiate sports teams, and a site for practice and competitions for intramural and club sports
at the university. The university approved construction of a facility that would emphasize team sports and the Field House
has proved to be one of the foremost centers dedicated to this idea in the region.
Listed below are additional highlights in the history of the building:
- 1991, Board of Trustees approves plans for the construction of the facility.
- 1992, construction completed at a final cost of $8.7 million. Building will house 200 meter track, 90 yard field, and four
courts that can be used for tennis, basketball and field events.
- 1998, officially dedicated as the "Charles Perry Field House."
