Dean Emeritus of Students

Arch B. Conklin, Dean Emeritus of Students, served Bowling Green State University for 20 years, working directly with the student body. Dean Conklin was hired by President Prout in 1939 to serve as the first dean of students.  In 1940 he also became the adviser to the University’s Interfraternity Council. Over the course of the next 15 years, Dean Conklin was instrumental in expanding the Greek presence on campus. Working with students both during and after World War II, Dean Conklin was known for his “common horse-sense,” a valuable trait at a time of challenge and growth for the campus, as the student body swelled with the return of veterans to academia. Dean Conklin retired in 1960. Conklin Quadrangle was named in his honor.
