George Miller Diary - December 1863
Tuesday December 1
Just cold. Bay froze over last night. Stayed at home all day.
Wednesday 2
Aid Society met here. I went to Clinton after the mail. Had a good time in the eve.
Thursday December 3. 1863
Abe & I went to Sandusky Warm & pleasant
Friday 4
Hauled a load of Hay to Plaster Brd [unreadable] Rec'd a letter from Capt Linnen[?]
Saturday 5
Our Com had a drill in Clinton\r & a short fight in a row generaly
Sunday December 6, 1863
Went to meeting at the Brethren Church in the P.M. A calm clear day
Monday 7
Came to Berea & stayed all night with William. Clear & beautiful weather.
Tuesday 8
A squad of 15 of us were here practi[ci]ng shooting. We enlisted in the Sharpshooters. Pleasant day. Stayed over night with William.
Wednesday. December 9 1863
Went to Cleveland in the morning \r & were mustered into the service of Uncle Samuel. Drew clothing & came to Sam--We stay at the Colton
Thursday 10
Abe & I bought a blouse & vest for $12.00 each. Then walked home getting here about 1 o'clock. Clear and pleasant.
Friday 11
Cloudy & foggy. I went to town with father in the P.M. Roads good
Saturday December 12 1863
Rained nearly all day & I stayed at home all the time. Father went to Sandusky.
Sunday 13
Father & William came home about 9am this morning. Went to the Brethren Church & heard the Elder-Brought--preach.
Monday 14
Abe & I went to Uncle Dick's to practice shooting with some of our fellow soldiers did not do much cold & windy
Tuesday December 15 1863
Went to town Quite cold
Wednesday 16
Stayed at home all day I am now with [unreadable]
Thursday 17
Rainy & mist most of the day Snowed hard last night
Friday December 18 1863
Quite cold Went with father to the Regiment place
Saturday 19
Staid at home all day & quite cold Orison B Carss was here with other company
Sunday 20
Went to town Pleasant day
Monday December 21 1863
I went to town & rec'd a letter from Capt Turner. Also got the Buggy & stopped at Mrs. Cutts as I came back

Somewhat strong Staid at home all day Baker [unreadable] was here
Wednesday 23
Went to Erie TP in the P.M. Staid all night at Mr. Halls
Monday December 24 1863
Came to Clinton on skates. Took dinner at Merrien[?]\r & attended the bible class at Stevens in the eve
Friday 25
Mrs. [unreadable] has dinner home. I went to a surprise party in the eve at Will's with Mrs. Gild Splendid eve & had a good time
Saturday 26
Wend to Mr. Alberding's in the morning & to Clinton in the P.M.--Rain part of the day
Sunday December 27 1863
Heard Wagner preach. Harriet & Will came here after meeting. This is my last Sunday at home when shall I see another here?
Monday 28
I start today to report at Berea & must leave this diary at home & the remaining days of the year without a record here. What the New Year has in store for me is yet to be revealed. May it see the end of this Cruel War.
