Dear Wife:

I now take my pen to let you know that we have arrived to the Regiment. I find it as good as I expected. We have plenty to eat such as it is there is between 15-20,000 men in camp here. This place is well fortified, the Secesh must be pretty strong if they get this place. We got here all safe and sound and expect to get home the same. I want you to tell me whether you got my clothes and money or not and whether you have got the goods from Fulton or not. Tell Father to write to me and tell Nate to write to me and tell all that is going on there. I want you to write as soon as possible. Tell Father that Mr. Hall thinks William will take them notes that I left with him on the land. Now write soon. I have nothing more to write this time so goodbye.

Dear Wife:

I will now write to you to let you know that I received your letter yesterday and was glad to hear that you was all well. I am well. You want to know about going out to Fulton. I think it would be very foolish for you to go out there. I thought it was all understood before I left I told Father to do that business and it won't cost anything and them notes that I left with him to pay on that land, you say you have got them. I sent them to him for that purpose. The next money that I get I will send to you. I went to church last Sunday. They was all darkies except the soldiers. There is nothing here but Negroes and they will steal every thing they get their hands on. I will send you some cotton in this letter so that you can see what it looks like. Send me some stamps if you can. Write as soon as you get this and tell all the news. Tell us what you and the rest of the folks think of the war. They seem to think here that the war won't last a great while longer. Nothing more this time but remain your husband,
