Comments

John Welk died in the Battle known as Chickamauga. In the brief span of time covered by John Welk's diary, he:

• Apparently missed the Battle of Perryville in Kentucky on Oct. 8, 1862.
• Was engaged in the Battle at Murfreesboro (also known as Stone's River), Dec. 31, 1862 - Jan. 2, 1863.
• Was engaged in the Battle of Chickamauga, September 19 and 20, 1863.
