Hawg Creek Spinners & Weavers Guild (Lima, Ohio) - MS 577
The Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers collection consists of 1/3 linear feet, and contains information on the Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers organization from the years1978-1989. Some of the information includes newsletters, news clippings, yearbooks, Midwest Weavers Conference newsletters, the Guild’s bylaws and miscellaneous articles on spinning and weaving.
The collection was donated and transferred to the Center for Archival Collections in 1991 with the cooperation of Phyllis Leech. There are no restrictions on the research use of this collection and duplication is permitted for purposes of preservation and scholarly research. The collection was processed and the register prepared by Annie Rose Adams November 2009.
The Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers Guild was created in 1978. The organization’s name was approved and established at the first meeting January 11, 1978. The Guild sent out a newsletter once a month and also held monthly meetings. The newsletters would update the members on the groups various meetings and activities, it would also provide the members with interesting spinning and weaving patterns and examples of yarn and materials.
The Hawg Creek Spinning and Weaving Guild attended and created several different events throughout the year in order to educate people about the art of spinning and weaving and also to meet with fellow spinners and weavers to share and learn from one another. The guild participated in a number of demonstrations at events at the museum, fairs, and senior citizen homes.
The Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers Guild collection consists primarily of the organization’s newsletters which describe the activities of the organization and its members through the years of 1978 and 1989.
Other items found within the collection consists of the guild’s bylaws, assorted articles involving the organization and/or its members, Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers yearbooks, event programs and several instruction pamphlets providing details on several spinning and weaving techniques.
A researcher interested in the history of the Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers Guild would find this collection useful. Also, researchers interested in information of spinning and weaving during the 1970s and 1980s would find this collection of use.
The bylaws provide several in depth descriptions of the name, purpose, membership details, meeting dates, committees, and amendments/revisions for the guild.

Provide several different instructions of methods of spinning and weaving, including felt making.

Many different newsletters dating from Jan 1978-March 1989 giving details on the guild’s activities and members.
July 1978, June 1979
This includes the Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers yearbooks which describe the various spinning and weaving techniques learned over the year and event programs from the Midwest Weavers Conference that the guild attended in the years 1978 and 1979.
