 Introduction

The Northwest Ohio Local Government Records Office collection consists of over twelve (12) linear feet of records management documentation for the nineteen counties of Northwest Ohio: Allen, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood, and Wyandot. The collection includes correspondence, certificates of disposal, and retention record schedules for county offices, municipalities, townships, and school districts.

The material was collected during the course of their work by the Regional Coordinators for the Northwest Ohio Office from 1970 to 1996, the year the office was closed. The Ohio Historical Society (OHS), located in Columbus, maintains current files on the region. The remaining material was donated to the Center for Archival Collections (CAC). No restrictions exist on the use of this collection. Duplication is permitted for the purpose of preservation and research. Jordan Wesler, Student Archival Assistant, completed the register in January 2009.

 Agency History

The Northwest Ohio Local Government Records Office was established in 1970 by the OHS to assist local governments, including counties, municipalities, townships, and school districts, with records preservation. The office, located at the CAC, closed in 1996 due to loss of funding, but CAC staff continued to file certificates of disposal received from county offices in the files.

 Scope and Content

The Northwest Ohio Local Government Records Office files consist of 12 linear feet of records management documentation. The material includes correspondence, certificates of disposal, and retention record schedules for county offices municipalities, townships and school districts. The collection also contains donation records and some printed material.
