Introduction
The Bowling Green State University Retirees Association (BGSURA) collection consists of proceedings, subject files, newsletters
and photographs from this organization. The donation and transfer of these records to the Center for Archival Collections
was arranged in approximately 1998 with continual additions to the present time. No restrictions exist on the use of this
collection and duplication is permitted for the purposes of preservation and research. The register was completed by Stephen
W. Badenhop, Archival Assistant, in September 2008.
Agency Sketch
The Bowling Green State University Retirees Association (BGSURA) was organized in June 1995. The purpose of the group was
varied, as they sought to deepen the friendships and associations of former faculty and staff through recreational and community
activities, continue and foster a close liaison with Bowling Green State University for the general welfare and mutual benefits
of each other, safeguard their members pension plans and convey care for each other. Membership was opened to all full-time
and part-time faculty and staff who have worked at the University for at least five years. The body is governed by a board
of twelve directors. The board in turn elects a president, vice president and secretary with an appointed newsletter editor
and archivist/historian. There are also eight standing committees that serve the organization consisting of executive, nominating,
program, activities, professional, by-laws, membership and benevolence committees. The society is also a member of the Ohio
Council of Higher Education Retirees. The group continues to be an active member of the Bowling Green State University community.

Scope and Content
The Bowling Green State University Retirees Association (BGSURA) collection consists of 0.3 linear feet of material including
proceedings, subject files, newsletters and photographs. The proceedings section gives detailed lists of the group membership
from 1995 to 2008 along with some sporadic meeting minutes from the board of directors. The subject files contain convocation
and activities programs along with the organization's constitution. The most important aspect of the collection is the run
of group newsletters from 1995 to 2008 detailing the group's activities and reflections on the past of Bowling Green State
University. The photographs in the collection show members of the association and a picture of the first convocation.
