Biographical Sketches: Millikin Family

William Henry Millikin (1853-1931) was born April 3, 1853 in Verango County, Pennsylvania. Early in his life he worked as a school teacher, but with the advent of the oil boom he became actively involved in that business, at first in Pennsylvania and southern New York, but eventually relocating to Ohio. Initially living in Lima, Ohio, Millikin moved to Wood County, Ohio where he prospered with his own oil wells and holding leases for additional property. In addition, Millikin was a director of the First National Bank of Bowling Green, built a major hotel in Bowling Green

at the corner of Main and Wooster Streets, and also was active in
local politics on city council. He was married in 1884 to Alice Delphine Davie from Bolivar, NY.

Alice Delphine Davie Millikin (1857-1910) was born in Bolivar, NY on May 16, 1857, the daughter of Charles Benson and Clarissa Davie. It was in Bolivar that Alice first met and later married William Henry Millikin, who was involved in the oil industry there. A couple years after their marriage, the family relocated to Bowling Green, Ohio,

as the Wood county oil fields became active. Their family consisted of Carrie (Mrs. William Wilke), Mary (Mrs. Ross Parker), Grace (Mrs. Fred Uhlman), and Charles William. She died after a long illness on May 27, 1910.

Carrie Millikin Wilke (1886-1945) was the daughter of William Henry and Alice Davie Millikin, born April 30, 1886 in Warren, Pa. Married on October 22, 1907 to William Wilke, who was manager of her father's Millikin Hotel in Bowling Green, their family consisted of sons William and Richard.
