Introduction

The papers of Virginia Uhlman Nader consist of approximately 50 linear feet and eleven bound volumes of letters, genealogical materials, and other documents as well as a collection of books, printed material, and photographs centered on the ancestors of Virginia Uhlman Nader, including the Uhlman, Millikin, and Baldwin families. The bulk of the collection exists in an extensive grouping of letters sent and received by various members of the family spanning the years from the 1860s-1998.

The agreement for transfer of these records to the Center for Archival Collections was arranged through the cooperation of Laurence C. Nader, on May 27, 2005. No restrictions exist on the use of this collection. Duplication may be permitted for the purposes of preservation and research. The register was initiated by Carrie Phillips, graduate student volunteer, in June 2005, with continued processing through 2008 by graduate students Mike Swanson and Steve Badenhop, and final revision by Marilyn Levinson, Curator of Manuscripts.

The Uhlman, Baldwin, Nader, and Millikin families are related through marriage and business ties. Brief biographies are included in this finding aid to assist researchers in identifying individuals appearing in correspondence and other documents.  Information about those appearing in the list of related surnames below will be found with the biographies of their Baldwin family relations.
