Introduction

The records of the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Napoleon, Ohio were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio with the cooperation of Pastor James Castello and the assistance of Patricia Mohring, church secretary.

The Center for Archival Collections is the publisher of this microfilm edition. The camera negative is the property of the Center for Archival Collections. For restrictions on the duplication of this collection please see the accompanying Note to Researchers.

This collection consists of three record books dating from 1882 - 2007. The record books contain membership records, church officers, pastoral records, communion records, confirmation records, baptisms, marriages, deaths, burials, and annals collections.

Agency History

Emanuel Lutheran Church, Napoleon, Ohio was first organized by Pastor Louis Damman on July 9, 1882. The original congregation met at various sites, including personal homes, the courthouse, a school house, and the Episcopal Church, before moving into a brick church at the corner of West Clinton and North Scott streets in Napoleon, Ohio. This brick church burned October 28, 1916 and the congregation met in an Evangelical church 200 feet to the west of the burned church. During this time, the old church was torn down and construction on a new edifice began. Although World War I affected the timely completion of the building, the cornerstone was laid on September 2, 1917, and the current facility was dedicated for service on November 17, 1918.
