Webster Homemakers' Club (Webster Township, Wood County, Ohio) - MS 1069
Introduction | Agency History | Scope and Content | Series Description | Inventory
The Webster Homemakers' Club collection covers a period between 1964 and 1994. This manuscript collection consists mainly of the meeting minutes of the club from the period described above. This collection was donated to the Center for Archival Collections from Webster Township in 2007. No restrictions exist on the use of this collection and duplication is permitted for the purposes of preservation and research. The register was completed by Stephen Badenhop, graduate student of history, Bowling Green State University in August 2007.
The Webster Homemakers' Club was formed in late 1964. It was organized with a President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, Senior Councilor and Junior Councilor. The group worked toward the betterment, promotion and improvement of the homemaker profession. This was done through programs such as "laundrying," "housecleaning," "smooth floor care," and "making the most of your microwave." The club also participated in the creation of handicrafts. This organization was a part of a larger Wood County Homemakers' Club. The group dissolved in late 1993 with the final dispensation of the club's treasury occurring in August 1994.
The Webster Homemakers' Club contains original meeting minutes of the organization and membership lists for the early 1990s. The minutes briefly describe the activities of the club and the programs and events the group participated in during their existence from 1964 to 1994. These activities mainly focused on issues concerning homemakers such as "laundrying" and "making the most of your microwave." The club also engaged in making handicrafts. A person studying American domestic life in the late twentieth century would find this collection useful as it explains what women homemakers were interested in learning and knowing about their profession.
